Hockey Edmonton says the weekend death of a 16-year-old player was a freak accident.

The organization says Kyle Fundytus was wearing an approved neck guard when he was hit in the neck with a puck Saturday.

Grief counsellors are talking to players from both teams as well as students at the teen’s school.
