A man and woman from Chilliwack are facing 17 charges after running a police roadblock in Abbotsford on Monday.

Abbotsford police said a black Toyota 4Runner ran their roadblock, which was set up to block downed trees and power lines on Short Road, just after 2 a.m. on Monday. Officers stayed at the roadblock but several minutes later there was a report of a single vehicle crash in the 33800-block of Vye Road.

Police found the Toyota 4Runner, which was stolen from Chilliwack, abandoned and along with K9 officers began looking for the driver and any passengers.

Shortly after the first incident, a black Ford Explorer driving erratically was spotted by police heading eastbound on Vye Road. APD confirmed the SUV was stolen from a residence in the 33900-block of Vye Road, where residents also reported a break-in.

Police were able to stop the stolen SUV using a spike belt. A male driver and female passenger were taken into custody and now face 17 charges.
