Around this time of year, roughly 700 more passengers per day pass through the Regina airport and so far, the weather seems to be cooperating.

“This is the first time in three years we didn’t have any weather delays, so it was perfect. Smooth sailing,” said another passenger on the Toronto flight.

For people opting for a warm holiday, Hawaii is the most popular holiday destination for people from Saskatchewan, followed by Mexico, Cuba, South American countries and Costa Rica, according to CAA.

“Right now it seems to be the couples, probably the 20 and 30 year olds, maybe some retirees as well, who are looking for those warmer climates, just to get away from the harsh winter,” said Christine Niemczyk, with CAA Saskatchewan.

For families sticking around for a Saskatchewan Christmas, drivers are reminded to prepare for the worst by travelling with a survival kit and checking the highway hotline for the latest conditions.

“Conditions are updated a minimum of three times a day,” said Mark Rathwell with the ministry of highways and infrastructure. “If a storm does hit, our crews are ready to go and they’ll be out plowing in full force.”
