The last thing you want to do when you’re sick is to leave the house.
Yet, that’s exactly what many workplaces ask of those who call in sick, requiring a sick note from the doctor. Very often, medical clinics charge $10-$20 fee for a sick note.
Now the Doctors of B.C. are looking into who should foot the bill. The movement is focusing on the cost of a sick note, and say that employers should be the ones to pay, citing the strain on the medical system and the potentially contagious patient.
On the other hand, businesses caution that increased costs on employers could hurt the economy and put B.C. at a competitive disadvantage.
