Cambrian Credit Union members should be double checking their bank accounts, as a card skimming incident has affecting an unknown amount of members.

Police have been notified of the card skimming incident.  Card skimming is an illegal device that is added to an ATM or bank machine to capture a debit card’s magnetic stripe information and PIN.  PINs are subsequently retrieved by the criminal peering over the machine user’s shoulder, by secret video-tape or through some other information gathering technology.

Once the criminals have the information, they create a duplicate card and will go on a spending blitz, draining your bank account.

This incident was sparked by NDP MLA Erin Selby who took to twitter Sunday, saying her bank account was drained from an ATM in New York.

Cambrian Credit Union hasn’t said how many bank accounts were affected.
