A dead, short-haired dog put in a duffel bag was found floating in the water near Ogden Point in Victoria today and the BC SPCA is looking for some answers.
Before starting an animal cruelty investigation, BC SPCA staff is looking to the public to get information that will help determine how they proceed with the case.
“Right now, we’re not sure if it’s a case of someone disposing of an already deceased animal inappropriately, or if it’s something more sinister,” BC SPCA special constable Lynsay Bailey said in a statement.
“Before we proceed with any necropsy or cruelty investigation, we want to appeal to the public for any information they might have to help us shed light on this rather morbid discovery.”
The dog is described as a pit bull or boxer, white, short-haired, bully breed, and adult-aged.
Bailey said the duffel bag the dog was found in is distinctive and is hoping someone may recognize the item.
Anyone with information is asked to call the BC SPCA hotline at 1-855-622-7722.
