Two people have been sent to hospital with serious injuries after fire ripped through their home in Agassiz, reducing it to rubble.
Two residents, both adults were inside the house on Sheffield drive when the flames erupted just before 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
One person was airlifted to a Lower Mainland burn unit in critical condition with third-degree burns to most of their body.
The other was reportedly rushed by ambulance to Chilliwack General Hospital with severe burns.
Agassiz Deputy Fire Chief Gerald Basten says crews arrived to a fully involved house fire with a fair amount of debris scattered across the road.
Neighbours say they heard loud explosions, possibly up to three before flames were seen.

“Both occupants were in the home upstairs at the time of the explosion,” says Basten.
What may have caused the explosion is not known yet.
“At this point in time it’s too early to tell. There are no indications of what may have caused the explosion but both the office of the Fire Comissioner, the RCMP and the Agassiz fire will be conducting an investigation,” says Basten.
Fire investigators will return to the home later this morning searching for the possible cause.
