TORONTO – Philip Grandine has been convicted of manslaughter in connection with the drowning of his 30-year-old pregnant wife in a bathtub in 2011.

Grandine, a former pastor at Ennerdale Baptist Church, was 25 years old at the time of her death and originally told police he had gone for a run that evening and returned to find his wife, Karissa Grandine, unconscious in the tub.

He was later charged with first-degree murder when police found the sedative Lorazepam in her blood. Grandine was convicted of manslaughter Thursday afternoon.

Grandine was having an affair with one of his parishioners at the time of the murder and the prosecution alleged Grandine drugged his wife so he could continue on with the relationship.
