Hufnagel answers traditional Grey Cup sex question

WATCH: John Hufnagel and Kent Austin answer the annual Grey Cup sex question

VANCOUVER – It’s a strange tradition: each year prior to the Grey Cup, a reporter asks each team’s head coach what he thinks about players having sex prior to the big game.

For decades, the question was asked by veteran Toronto sportswriter Jim Hunt. Since his passing, other reporters have followed suit.

Ahead of the 2014 Grey Cup, Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun asked Calgary Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel and Kent Austin of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats about whether they approve of disapprove of players having sexual relations prior to the Grey Cup.

Hufnagel, a CFL veteran who has answered the question before, was ready with a response.

“The recurring theme or words that have come out of my players mouths from the start of training camp is to finish,” said Hufnagel. “I would hope they would have that same directive this week.”

Many coaches have thought pre-game relations hindered athletic performance, despite a lack of evidence.
