REGINA – You may notice a few coyotes while you’re using the walking and ski trails at Wascana Centre this winter.
The coyotes have existed in the park during the winter for decades without issue – they’re a natural part of the prairie ecosystem and help control the rodent population.

Wascana Centre Authority is providing these tips to coexist with the urban coyotes:
- If a person finds themselves in close proximity to a coyote, do not run away: raise your hands above your head, yell and clap at the coyote to scare it off.
- Never feed or leave food for coyotes in the park, since the animal could lose its fear of humans and turn into a potential problem-animal.
- Dogs should always be on a leash in the Centre. In a coyote encounter, small dogs can be viewed as possible prey if running free.
