WINNIPEG -Freezing rain and blowing snow has Environment Canada issuing a special weather statement.
According to Environment Canada, areas of freezing drizzle have developed in the Red River Valley including Winnipeg behind a low pressure system tracking into Northwest Ontario today.
Brisk north winds behind the system are bringing in colder air this afternoon with temperatures falling towards the minus 10 mark from morning temperatures near freezing.
Freezing drizzle is expected to change over to periods of snow later today into this evening as temperatures continue to fall.
The combination of freezing drizzle, snow, wind and falling temperatures will create slippery conditions on untreated surfaces and locally icy road conditions through tonight.
Areas included in the special weather statement are as follows:
- Selkirk – Gimli – Stonewall – Woodlands – Eriksdale
- Morden – Winkler – Altona – Emerson – Morris
- Portage la Prairie – Headingley – Brunkild – Carman
- City of Winnipeg
- Steinbach – St. Adolphe – Dominion City – Vita – Richer
- Dugald – Beausejour – Grand Beach
