Smoke in the basement

KELOWNA — A Kelowna couple and their dog escaped unharmed after fire broke out in the basement of their Water Street home.

The call came in shortly before 5 a.m. of smoke in the basement.

“Attack crews found a small fire in the furnace room that was extending into the floor joists,” says Platoon Captain, Kelly Stephens.

He says the fire was knocked down.

The residents will be able to return once power has been restored.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The smoke detectors in the home were working at the time.

A cold snap hovering over the Okanagan is prompting residents to turn on their furnaces for the first time this season.
