EDMONTON – Charges have been withdrawn against a man accused of stealing money after a fatal armoured truck crash in northern Alberta.
Two people were killed when the G4S armoured vehicle and a pickup truck collided on an icy highway near Fort McMurray last December.
Dale Hasenuik of Leduc County says he was simply trying to help when he picked up a bundle of cash at the scene totalling $130,000 dollars.
The 61-year-old says he feared another motorist would swipe the money, so he drove it to a nearby RCMP detachment, so he was surprised when he was arrested three days later.
Charges of theft and possession of stolen property were recently withdrawn at the beginning of a preliminary hearing in court.
