VANCOUVER – Retired Canadian Forces personnel Scott Mayert will be one of many to stand guard at his local Cenotaph on Saturday morning.
Just like Cpl. David Ward did at the Vancouver Cenotaph on Thursday, Mayert said they are doing this in memory of the fallen soldier in Ottawa,Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, who was killed after being struck in a hit-and-run attack in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

Mayert served in the 8th Canadian Hussars for two years and was in the reserves for another year before retiring.
“We’re showing our support for the men and women serving at this time,” he said.
Mayert and at least four others will be at the Port Moody Cenotaph but many others will be at their local Cenotaphs across Canada. The movement is being organized via Facebook pages, including this one.
“We won’t hide and we won’t be intimidated from these kinds of attacks,” said Mayert.
The veterans will begin standing guard at 10 a.m. and everyone is welcome, but they are urged to wear red.
“Just to show support for our military and the job they do,” said Mayert.
