Liberal MLA Linda Reimer has introduced a private member’s bill to declare Terry Fox Day in B.C.

If the bill is approved at this afternoon’s second reading, Terry Fox Day will be an annual event in B.C. on the second Sunday after Labour Day.

That Sunday coincides with the Terry Fox Run across B.C. that raises millions of dollars for cancer research.

In recognition of the bill, which is expected to pass, Premier Christy Clark presented a proclamation this morning to the Fox family.

NDP MLA Mike Farnworth who knew Fox growing up says  it is pretty special when someone you know as a child grows up to do remarkable things.

“Like many people in Port Coquitlam, we went to school with Terry, we knew him growing up, we know him as just one of us,” he adds.
