Gatineau police have charged Patrick Brazeau with alcohol-related offences, and now the suspended senator is going to rehab – again.

Brazeau is set to attend a rehabilitation facility in Sherbrooke, Que. for two months, Crown attorney Sylvain Petitclerc said.

Petitclerc said Brazeau is to remain in rehab until Dec. 8, the date of his next court appearance, but his therapy may continue for up to two years.

The 39-year-old was arrested on Monday afternoon when he was sitting behind the wheel of his car while allegedly impaired, with a weapon.

Police said they smelled alcohol and he was arrested after failing a breathalyzer test, blowing twice the legal limit.

Police also found a knife in the car.

Brazeau faces three charges: breach of bail conditions (possessing a weapon), impaired driving, and blowing over the legal limit.

His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and his car has been impounded for 30 days, police said.

The suspended former Conservative senator is also facing assault and sexual assault charges from February 2013, as well as drug and assault charges from April this year.

He attended court-ordered rehabilitation this spring for drug and alcohol abuse, and was said to be attending treatment this summer.

Brazeau’s sexual assault trial begins in March 2015.
