VANCOUVER – In December 2013, Mayor Gregor Robertson announced Vancouver would have a family-friendly event to ring in 2015.
However, that is not going to happen.
Organizers admitted on Thursday that they have not been able to raise enough money and so the party is over before it started.
They are now aiming for 2016.
Organizers planned the event for the Jack Poole Plaza, with food carts and street performers, but the hosts could not find enough sponsors to foot the $300,000 bill.
Planners are short about $100,000 and say even if someone came forward now, it would be too late.
“There would just be too much to do,” said Gauthier.
