Early Vancouver Canucks ticket sales indicate numbers are down

VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks play their first regular season game on Wednesday and early indications from ticket sales is that brokers still have a lot of inventory.

“I’ve got a season ticket holder that I’ve known for many many years, he’s been one of my clients, he gets concert tickets from me all the time, he calls me me up and says ‘Kingsley I want to retain my season tickets but I don’t want to go this year,” says Kingsley Bailey, owner of Vancouver Ticket & Tours Service.

“‘I’m willing to offer them to you for 50 per cent off’, and my answer to him was I’ll take them on consignment only, I don’t want to put any money on them and they’re great seats.”

But the really die-hard fans believe the Canucks just need a few wins at the beginning of the season to get sales back up again.

“It will be interesting to see what their price is going to be for the average fan who probably has trouble affording their product,” says Vince Kreiser from the Langara Department of Recreational Studies. “And number two they’ve got to get a winning team going. I think last year we all so-called suffered through that season, it wasn’t a lot of fun, it was interesting to watch but it wasn’t a lot of fun.”

Not surprising then we are seeing an aggressive ad campaign in theatres, on TV and on radio promising change is coming and has already started.
