Police investigate assault on jogger in Edmonton River Valley

EDMONTON — Police are investigating after a 29-year-old woman was reportedly attacked while running in the River Valley Monday evening.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, the woman was running on a gravel trail between MacKenzie Ravine and MacKinnon Ravine, near Hawrelak Park. As the woman was rounding a corner, police say a man allegedly jumped out of the trees and grabbed her, causing the pair to fall to the ground.

Police say the woman was able to get back on her feet, but the man followed behind her for a short distance.

The woman then ran to the Kinsmen Sports Centre and reported the attack to police. Officers say the woman was not injured in the altercation.

The suspect is described as a man between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, with a slim build. He is about six feet tall with brown hair and a dark moustache. Police say he was wearing a blue sweater at the time and smelled of cigarette smoke.

Police are asking anyone who visits the River Valley to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to police.

Police say they haven’t heard of any other similar incidents happening in the area.
