Crews douse blaze at Winnipeg auto shop

WINNIPEG – Fire crews quickly got control of a large blaze that broke out late Wednesday afternoon at an automobile and tire business in East Kildonan.

The fire, which caused $600,000 damage, was fought from outside the building because of the presence of oil cans, gas and tires.

A thick plume of heavy black smoke and flames rose above the facility at Molson Street and Panet Road during the supper hour Wednesday.

Panet Road at Nairn was shut down while crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

No one was injured, officials said.
