VANCOUVER — It was all paws on deck at the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ annual fundraiser, Paws for a Cause.

The walks – which took place in 34 communities today – raised funds for the 41,000 animals the BCSPCA helps each year.

“Paws for a Cause is our largest fundraising event of the year,” Lorie Chortyk, general manager community relations of BCSPCA told Global News. She noted the walks are particularly important, since the BCSPCA doesn’t receive any government funding.

The BCSPCA has been holding the walks for over 20 years. Not only are they imperative for raising funds for animals in need, but they’re a “day to celebrate the bond that we have with animals,” said Chortyk.

“It’s so great to see all these people come out and celebrate their love of animals and support animals that are less fortunate in our province,” she said.
