Crews are investigating a suspicious fire that gutted an abandoned home in Surrey early this morning.
Firefighters were called to the two-storey home in the 12000-block of 66 Avenue at about 5:45 a.m. for a suspicious fire, according to Battalion Chief Steve Zecchel.

When crews arrived on the scene they found a second suspicious fire had been set at the abandoned house next door — but it had fizzled out before getting a chance to take hold. There was almost no damage done to the home.
Investigators say the first home has extensive damage due to the fire being started in the basement and having considerable time to burn.
Zecchel says there were no injuries and due to the amount of damage done to the house, it will need to be knocked down.
