WATCH: Another short-lived but intense storm system rolled through Southern Manitoba Friday, dumping over 100mm of rain in some places and causing flash flooding
NIVERVILLE – The town of Niverville says an ‘unprecedented’ amount of rain has left dozens of residents with flooded basements and backyards.
It estimates at least 127 mm (five inches) of rain fell in about an hour.
“You couldn’t see through it, it was just like a sheet of water,” says town councilor Myron Dyck.
The flash flooding left cars stranded in the streets and filled ditches in a matter of minutes. Streets turned to lakes in Steinbach as well where Environment Canada says 54-65 mm fell Friday within 20 minutes.
