Centre Street chosen as route for new LRT line

CALGARY- The new route for the future north central LRT expansion has been unveiled.

Centre Street has been chosen, which means trains will run along the middle of the street. There will be two lanes of traffic on either site of the tracks north of McKnight Boulevard, and just one lane on each side south of McKnight.

The tracks will eventually flow into a tunnel to get into the downtown core.

The city will have to buy some properties, but much less than if the road was widened all the way along the route.

The line should be up and running by 2020.
