MONTREAL – Police have identified the body of Yong Xin Zhang, who was found in the Lachine Canal around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.
He was found near the Les Quai des Eclusiers condo project, just west of Atwater Market in the Saint-Henri borough.
The 17-year-old had been missing since Sunday.
He was apparently separated from his mother around 8 p.m. while visiting the Notre-Dame Basilica in the Old Port.
Police say Zhang was not know to be a troublemaker and did not hang out with a bad crowd.
The body did not show any signs of violence.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
