WATCH: Challenge triathletes paint the town red

PENTICTON — The Valley First Challenge Penticton is just two days away, and more and more participants are arriving to the city.

There are about 1,200 people registered to take on the Challenge, including hometown favourite Jeff Symonds, who placed first overall in the inaugural year.

“My motto is to get ugly out there,” says Symonds, “to do whatever it takes to get to the finish as fast as possible.”

But most people are just participating for the fun of it.

“I think it’s a great race. I hope to finish the race,” says Gert Blemenstock of Roth, Germany, the birthplace of the Challenge race.
