TORONTO – Toronto mayoral hopeful Olivia Chow will unveil a revised transit map to help speed up service across the city during a media event at her campaign headquarters Wednesday morning.

Earlier this year, Chow promised to invest $15 million a year annually to increase bus service and facilitate faster commute times.

Her plan involves keeping buses slated for retirement to be put back into service as the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) new articulated buses are slowly introduced to the public in the next two years.

Chow is also expected to compare her transit map to that of fellow candidate John Tory.

In May, Tory released his so-called “SmartTrack” line that would use existing Metrolinx GO train lines to get commuters moving.

The plan includes an all-day, two-way surface rail service from Pearson Airport in the west-end of the city to all the way northeast to Unionville, Markham.

The line, which is estimated to cost $8 billion, will stretch 53 kilometres, include 22 stops and have the rails electrified.
