WINNIPEG – The Windy City will be in the Canadian travel spotlight this week.
Around 300 travel journalists and members of tourism boards from around the world arrived in Winnipeg Monday for a networking event.
The Carrefour GoMedia Canada Marketplace, the largest annual travel media show put on by the Canadian Tourism Commission, runs Aug. 17-21.
The event is designed to gain exposure for Canada’s tourism industry, as well as showcase what Winnipeg has to offer.
Many of the travel journalists are visiting for the first time, including Tamara Hinson from London, England.
“In the U.K., you don’t really read about Winnipeg at all. It’s a shame. It seems like the same cities get the same coverage,” Hinson said on her way out for a food tour.
“I’m looking forward to finding out more and about the culinary scene here.”
Local businesses expect to benefit from the tours and activities planned for the travellers.
