Power outages in Whitecourt following morning collision

EDMONTON – A single-vehicle collision in Whitecourt Sunday morning led to widespread power outages in the community northwest of Edmonton.

The collision happened around 10:30 a.m. in the area of 51 Street and 50 Avenue. RCMP say a logging truck was involved in the collision, damaging power and communication lines.

Fortis and EastLink Fibre crews were notified and have been working throughout the day to restore power. RCMP say there is the possibility of power interruptions throughout the town Sunday.

All emergency communication and 911 are fully operational.

No one was injured in the collision. The driver of the logging truck has been charged under the Traffic Safety Act.
