WATCH: This bear thinks it’s a person

TORONTO – A black bear went for a little stroll in a New Jersey neighbourhood the other day — walking on its hind legs as if it was human.

Multiple videos show the bear walking upright, down neighbourhood streets and through backyards.

In one video, the animal stops dead in its tracks and looks directly at the videographer.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It’s possible the bear is nursing an injured front paw, which seems to flop and looks limp in the video.

The videos have gone viral since being posted on YouTube.

Many social media users have speculated that the videos are fake or Photoshopped.

Larry Ragonese, spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, told PIX11 News the footage seems to be a little “off.”

“A bear on its hind legs would not be walking as smoothly as (this creature) seems to be,” Ragonese said. “It’s amazing with YouTube and social media how things that may not be, become news stories. I caution everybody to be a bit careful.”
