EDMONTON – A 58-year-old volunteer firefighter with Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services has died after suffering a medical emergency on the job.

Firefighters from Sangudo and Mayerthorpe were called to a vehicle fire on Highway 43 near Range Road 72 around 9:30 Wednesday night.

While on scene, one of the volunteer firefighters, Donald Bamber, suffered a medical emergency while transferring water between tanker trucks.

Emergency crews performed CPR on Bamber, but were unable to revive him. Fire officials say Bamber died of cardiac arrest.

Bamber joined Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services on May 11, 2013.

County Fire Chief Randy Schroeder says Bamber was a valued member of the fire department. Schroeder says Bamber’s son and son-in-law are also members of the department.
