UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP wrapped up their search at 8 p.m. last night and nothing was found that caused concern. The store is expected to re-open this morning.

VANCOUVER – The Nanaimo Costco was evacuated due to a bomb threat on Thursday.

RCMP were on scene for several hours after a bomb threat was called in just after 2 p.m. The building and adjacent grounds were searched by a police dog trained in explosive detection.

“We are urging the public to stay clear of the area. Police officers are stationed at near by intersections to stop any incoming traffic. When more information is made available, it will be released to the public,” said Const. Gary O`Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

The Costco is scheduled to have its regular hours on Friday. The RCMP say no bomb was found, but their investigation will continue.
