Surrey man drowns in Similkameen River

NEAR PRINCETON — A long weekend family vacation turned tragic Sunday. Lakhvir Brar, 37, was on his way home from vacationing with his family near Princeton when the group stopped at the Bromely Rock rest area along the Similkameen River. Brar decided to wade in the river.

“At some point Brar lost his footing and slipped beneath the water and did not resurface,” according to Princeton RCMP.

Several swimmers jumped in to help search for the victim, who was found under water a mere 10 minutes later, about 50 metres downstream. An off duty doctor and two firefighters performed CPR on the 37-year-old to no avail. Brar was transported to Princeton hospital where doctors again attempted to revive him with no success.
