Investigators with Nanaimo RCMP have searched the building housing the Departure Bay 7-11 store and found nothing suspicious after a bomb threat earlier this afternoon.

A two-block radius surrounding the building was cordoned off and no traffic was being allowed in.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Police say a call was received into the store at 1:05 p.m. today. The caller indicated there was a bomb in the store.

Nanaimo RCMP say the Departure Bay ferry terminal has not been closed and is running as usual. The 7-11 store is a kilometer away from the ferry terminal.

Officers are in the process of opening up roads and the Departure Bay beach, which was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

More to come.
