Safety concern prompts recall of thousands of bike, skateboard helmets

The NCC announced Friday that it will be kicking of it's Sunday Bikeday event on May 20.

OTTAWA – Health Canada says thousands of bike and skateboard helmets are being voluntarily recalled due to a potential safety hazard.

It says FGL Sports Ltd. is recalling its helmets sold under the Capix Evo and Capix Jr Evo brands as a precautionary measure due to a manufacturing defect that may cause cracks near rivets securing the chin strap.

Health Canada says there have been no reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of the helmets.

Approximately 8,684 of the recalled helmets were sold at Sport Chek, Sports Experts, Intersport and S3 stores across Canada between January and June of this year.

Health Canada says consumers should immediately stop using the affected helmets and return them to their local Sport Chek, Sports Experts, Intersport and S3 stores for a refund or exchange.
