WINNIPEG – Arthur Haussermann, 53, was the gravely wounded man found at a downtown fire who later died, police say.

Firefighters found Haussermann at the Holiday Towers on Hargrave Street at about 5:40 a.m. Saturday when they responded to an alarm set off by a small fire in his suite.

The fire was quickly extinguished and Haussermann, who had upper-body injuries, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police later said they were investigating his death as a homicide.

The fire caused about $10,000 to Haussermann’s suite. Police haven’t said whether they believe the fire was set to cover up evidence about the homicide.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident who hasn’t already spoken to them to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
