NEAR PENTICTON–A 75-year-old man died in an accident on the Okanagan Connector Friday, closing the highway for several hours.
The accident happened at 3:45. Early indications are the westbound pickup the man was driving crashed into the rear of a westbound commercial vehicle going downhill.
An air ambulance was called to the scene and the man was flown to Kelowna General Hospital, but he later died of his injuries.
RCMP aren’t releasing his identity, only saying he was a resident of a B.C. interior community.
The crash shut down Highway 97C about a kilometre and a half east of the Loon Lake exit with no detours available, leaving traffic backed up for kilometres.
The road has since been reopened.
