Winnipeg woman charged with second-degree murder in stabbing death

WINNIPEG – A 20-year-old woman has been charged with the second-degree murder of a stranger on a Winnipeg street.

Naomi Ross is accused of the stabbing death of Lorie Maureen Bearbull, 37, early on the morning of July 18.

Bearbull was walking in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue when she encountered Ross and the two got in an argument, police say.

The dispute ended with Ross stabbing Bearbull and then fleeing, police allege.

Police were dispatched to Salter Street at about 4:15 a.m. and Bearbull was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she died of her wounds.

Ross was arrested on Thursday and charged with second-degree murder.
