CALGARY – The torch relay for the Alberta Summer Games kicked off in Airdrie on Thursday.
The city is expecting to host of 3,000 athletes with the help of 2,000 volunteers.
Almost half of those volunteers signed on just last week.
Most of the athletes are still arriving via bus from all over the province.

The opening ceremonies begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, with a pre-show starting at 6:30 p.m.
There are lots of sporting events taking place including softball, baseball and beach volleyball.
