Calgary introduces fine for cab patrons who puke

Edmonton city councillors are considering whether to allow taxi companies to apply an additional fuel surcharge on all base fares. File

CALGARY – The City of Calgary has passed a law penalizing people who throw up in taxis.

When the law takes effect next year, anyone who barfs in a cab will be issued a $100 fine.

Taxi companies have lobbied for the fee to pay for cleanup costs and lost revenue while the car is out of service.

How it will be enforced and how the fee will be collected still needs to be worked out.
