VANCOUVER — It was a dangerous day on BC highways, with three serious accidents that left at least two people dead.

There was a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 5, just north of the Great Bear Snow Shed, in the southbound lane. One person is confirmed dead from the accident, according to authorities, with four people taken to hospital by ambulance and one person airlifted to hospital. The southbound lane was closed for hours, creating large delays in the area.

In Chilliwack, three cars collided at Lazenby Rd. and Ashwell Rd. which closed the area. That accident killed one person and injured three others.

And within minutes of the Chilliwack collision, there was a head-on crash on the Dewdney Trunk Road in mission. One person suffered serious injuries and authorities say alcohol could be a factor.

Just weeks ago, the province announced speed limit increases on many BC highways.
