Fire fighters battle six wildfires in South Okanagan-Similkameen since Tuesday

SOUTH OKANAGAN-SIMILKAMEEN – Fire fighters in the valley are not catching a break.

Forestry crews have been tackling six wildfires in the South Okanagan-Simillkameen over the last 67 hours.

This list is in chronological order:

1. Mt. Kobau, 8.2 hectares, 100% containment, suspected human caused

2. Apex Mountain, 313 hectares, 50% containment, suspected human caused

3. Boot Hill, 138 hectares, 30% containment, lightning caused

4. Jura Fire, 450 hectares, 40-50% containment, cause under investigation

5. Campbell Mountain, 5.5 hectares, 100% containment, suspected human caused

6. Chopaka Indian Reserve, 1.8 hectares, 100% containment, suspected human cause

Properties previously identified near the Apex Mountain and Jura fires are still on evacuation alert.

The B.C. Wildfire Centre has made a call out to send more fire fighters to the province.

There will be 200 personnel coming this weekend, but they are going to Prince George first.

Depending on the need, crews may or may not come to the Okanagan.
