FREDERICTON, N.B.- The Morgentaler Clinic saw it’s last patients and effectively closed its doors Friday.
A rally of about 200 marched from the clinic to the New Brunswick legislature, demanding the province repeal a section of the Medical Services Payment Act.
“What we want to do is maintain this clinic property and the space. It’s a very good medical clinic. Our hope for the future is that a reproductive health clinic will be established at this location,” said Simone Liebovitch, Manager of the Morgentaler Clinic, on Thursday.
Reproductive Justice New Brunswick has raised more than 100-thousand dollars and hopes to lease the building.
“It’s great that we have the money, but there is still going to be a gap in those services until we can find a pro-choice doctor who wants to not only offer abortions, because of course that’s not sustainable, but open a family practice or full service reproductive health clinic,” said Jayden Fitzherbert, who’s volunteered at the clinic for more than two years.
