WINNIPEG – A woman was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver in Transcona early Sunday, police say.

The woman had been drinking at Stereo Nightclub on Elizabeth Road in Windsor Park before heading outside, where she tripped while walking down a sidewalk.

A cab driver helped her into his cab and she gave him an address where she wanted to go, but he started kissing her, she told police.

The driver then took her to Transcona near the intersection of Day Street and Thom Avenue, where she was sexually assaulted, police said. She was injured in the assault.

The driver next took her to a nearby home, where police were called.

Police said they are checking with cab companies to see which taxis were in the area that night, but it’s possible the vehicle involved was not in service and left no record of its whereabouts.
