TORONTO — An Australian actor who received a scholarship named for Heath Ledger — who died of a drug overdose in 2008 — has been charged with drug possession.

Ryan Corr, 25, was arrested on May 27 after police found a man in a Bondi laneway smoking heroin. Investigators found a bag of white powder.

Corr’s arrest was not made public until July 8, when he had a scheduled court appearance. His case was adjourned until September.

Ledger’s father Kim, who awarded Corr the Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship in 2011, told Fairfax Media the news made him “sad.”
