UPDATE: Gas line rupture in front of Kelowna General Hospital

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: Pandosy Street is now open and Interior Health reports all entrances into the hospital, including the Emergency Room, are open.

KELOWNA — A gas line has ruptured in front of Kelowna General Hospital’s emergency room.

The break happened on a line near the corner of Royal Avenue and Pandosy Street.

The rupture happened where construction is underway building a new parking lot across from the emergency room.

Construction crews told Global Okanagan they hit a gas line. They immediately heard a loud whistle and crews were told to evacuate.

Ambulances are being diverted to the rear entrance on Strathcona Avenue.

Traffic is also being diverted away from the scene.

There’s no word on any other evacuations.

Pandosy Street is closed between Cadder and Rose Avenues.
