Two groups of  youths and young adults in the area of West Abbotsford are becoming a “significant public safety issue,” according to police.

There have been more than 25 reported incidents involving issues between these two groups, which are made up of males aged 15 to 25. The conflict between the two groups have resulted in thousands of dollars of damage to homes and vehicles and predominantly happen late at night.

Abbotsford police say the majority of the males involved are South Asian and although the incidents primarily involve property damage, they are concerned the conflict will escalate in nature to serious injuries.

Currently most of the damage has involved the homes or vehicles of people that are somehow connected to the males in both groups. Police say there is a pattern of incidents followed by retaliations over the past two months.

APD’s Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone who witnesses suspicious activity, to report it immediately.
