PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – A man who drowned Sunday in a lake southeast of Peterborough, Ont., has been identified as a 60-year-old Buffalo, N.Y., resident.
Police say witnesses spotted a man in distress on Rice Lake, about 200 metres from the shore of the Hiawatha First Nations Reserve.
Some of the witnesses tried to rescue the man, who was alone in the water, but police say they were unable to save him.
The body of Thomas Gangloff was found after a brief search by provincial police using a helicopter and an underwater search and rescue unit.
