Winnipeg bug battle behind schedule

WINNIPEG – Mosquitoes caught a break Saturday night due to stormy weather, which kept crews from spraying some Winnipeg neighbourhoods to get rid of the pests.

The City of Winnipeg began its adult nuisance mosquito fogging program Saturday night, but the fogging trucks were unable to treat six of the insect management areas. So they’ll be back at it Sunday night, weather permitting, to get caught up.

The city’s “Adulticiding Factor Analysis” level — the benchmark for deciding whether to roll out the fogging trucks — was high Sunday, with an average trap count of 184 mosquitoes. The buggiest area is Assiniboine Park, with a trap count of 1,664 mosquitoes.
