CALGARY – Dozens of police officers have converged on an upscale residence in a rural area north of Calgary as part of a massive six-day-old search for a missing five-year-old boy and his grandparents.
Timeline: Missing Calgary family Nathan O’Brien, Alvin and Kathryn Liknes
Calgary police have confirmed the search, just northeast of the bedroom community of Airdrie, is connected to the disappearance of young Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents, 66-year-old Alvin Cecil Liknes and 53-year-old Kathryn Fay Liknes.
“Police were led to the property yesterday evening following a tip after the public appeal for information relating to the truck,” said Duty Inspector Joel Matthews with the Calgary Police Service.
“It’s simply a lead that we’re following up… that we believe has some weight.”
Calgary police say a truck that is of a similar description to the vehicle of interest released Friday was located at the scene. On Friday, police said they were searching for a green Ford F-150 truck that was seen near the Parkhill home Sunday, the last place the trio was seen.

A man from the rural residence was taken into custody for questioning, police said. However, officers say it is “too early to determine if the address, vehicle or man taken in for questioning are linked to the file.”
“We’re questioning the man and following the lead on the vehicle,” said Matthews. “He is a person of interest.”
Jimmy Nevada lives across the road from the house and area that’s the focus of the search.
“They were quite hush hush,” said Nevada. “The SWAT team was out checking buildings and what not.”
Area residents said the road surrounding the property was closed off at various points Friday evening.
Saturday afternoon, police could be seen scouring a field and woods on the property, swatting at thick grass with poles.
As of 6:30 p.m. Saturday, police couldn’t say whether or not anything was found at the rural property. Officers will likely remain on scene for 24 to 36 hours, due to the size of the property.
“We want to make sure that we cover every avenue, we want to cover off that ground as quickly as we can,” Matthews said.
This latest development comes as police conduct a second large-scale area search near the Calgary home where the trio was last seen Sunday night.
The Amber Alert that was issued on Sunday remains in place.
